Machine guns don’t click every time you dry-fire. With open bolt designs the bolt drops when you pull the trigger and without a live round to generate gas or recoil and reciprocate the bolt, it won’t make any more noise after the initial trigger pull. With closed-bolt designs the hammer will fall once, making a click noise on the first trigger pull but again the bolt has to be sent back by gas or recoil to re-cock the hammer for it to fall and make a clicking noise again.
